Samantha Fabien (she/her) is a literary agent at Root Literary, representing bestselling authors.
Samantha is interested in high-concept, commercial and upmarket fiction with all-or-nothing stakes. Belonging to several intersectional identities and surrounded by an equally diverse community, Samantha has a deep-held passion for stories that feature, highlight, and uplift marginalized and underrepresented voices.
Her background includes a Bachelor’s in PR and Journalism from Seton Hall University and a certificate from the Columbia Publishing Course. Previously, she was also an International Rights Manager and held support roles at various agencies, including Ayesha Pande Literary and Writers House.
Samantha also works and volunteers with organizations, such as Gotham Writers. Currently, Samantha serves as a co-director of the Mentorship Committee within LAOC, devoted to increasing the promotion and retention of historically underrepresented groups, particularly people of color, in the agenting profession.
My Approach
Rooted in ethical, enthusiastic, and strategic advocacy, I love working with creators who are not only talented storytellers but who are building careers with intention, integrity, and longevity in mind.
I partner closely with my clients to help them distinguish their voice, refine their vision and brand, and navigate the publishing industry with confidence and strategy.
Great books are made at the intersection of craft, courage, and care, and my passion is in helping shepherd each project through that process from early development to submission and beyond. I am especially passionate about championing stories that resonate deeply with readers, expand representation, and endure beyond trends.
At the core of my work is trust: trust between agent and author, trust in the creative process, and trust that the right opportunities unfold when strategy and alignment meet. My goal is not simply to sell books, but to help authors build sustainable, fulfilling careers rooted in growth, clarity, and purpose.
